The bank balance is visible, immediate, and emotionally persuasive. That does not make it a reliable measure of performance on its own.

Explanation

A strong bank can be temporary if customers have prepaid, liabilities are still due, or trading margins are weakening underneath.

Real example

A business finishes the month with cash in the bank after a large customer receipt, but gross margin has fallen and overdue supplier bills are building.

What to do in practice

Use the bank as a liquidity check, not a performance verdict. Review it alongside profit, receivables, payables, and upcoming tax obligations.
